Essential Information

Best Season

Weather can be a hassle during the trek in the mountains. Information on weather and climate is a must while travelling at high altitudes from sea level. Thus, the most favourable season for the Annapurna Base Camp trek is Autumn and Spring. During Autumn, the skies are clear, and the weather is most likely to be fair. The clear sight of mountains can be seen. Similarly, the days are warmer and longer during spring. In addition, the rhododendron blooms in the forest in this season.

However, the trek is possible for most of the year. The temperature during the day is cool, and the night falls below the freezing point in winter. But it would be the right choice to avoid travelling during the monsoon season. Heavy rainfall occurs during the season, which result causes floods and landslides.

Annapurna Base Camp Trek FAQs

Autumn and spring are the best times for trekking in Nepal. The sky is fair during autumn, due to which the clear vision of mountains out in the distance can be seen. Likewise, the days are warmer and longer during spring. The trekking in Nepal is mostly in the high mountains. There is a high risk of floods and landslides in case of heavy rainfall. Therefore, it would be better not to travel during the monsoon season.

The trek to ABC is neither hard nor easy. It's kind of moderate. You don't need any mountain climbing or technical skills during the trek. While comparing it with the EBC trek, it is easier. This is because of less number of days, altitude (ABC 4,310 m and EBC 5,554 m), and oxygen level.

Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) is an illness caused while travelling at a high altitude from sea level. Usually, it occurs after crossing 2,400 m altitude. Headache, shortness of breath, dizziness, nausea, loss of appetite, tiredness, etc., are the major symptoms of AMS. In order to prevent the sickness, it's better to head down to a lower altitude. In case of severe conditions, the victim will be transferred to the hospital via helicopter.

The guide appointed to you is well-resourced with first aid kits. However, it would be better if you had one yourself. The duration of the trek takes hours. Therefore, a first aid kit and medications will help with the crisis throughout the trek.
